SALISBURY, N.C. — Rowan-Cabarrus business administration graduate Cameron Beverly’s team was one of 40 global virtual teams designated as “best teams” during a X-Culture Global Symposium in Macerata, Italy.

The Symposium is a large-scale international experiential learning project administered by X-Culture, Inc. in collaboration with over 150 universities around the world. The event was co-organized with the Academy of International Business USA Southeast Division.

Along with Beverly, Rowan-Cabarrus students Tiffany Holland and Joe Hurst also participated in the X-Culture experience.

Around a dozen multi-national corporations teamed up with X-Culture and presented their challenges to the competition participants. Working in global virtual teams throughout a semester, the students developed solutions to problems presented by X-Culture’s international business corporate partners. In doing so, the students learned best practices while developing business plan skills.

About 5,000 students from 40 countries on six continents participate in the X-Culture program. In 2014, Rowan-Cabarrus became the first and only community college in the world to participate. Each year, 50 students from around the globe are invited to participate in the annual symposium. Students are placed on international teams with about four to seven members who work collaboratively to find a solution to a real-world business challenge.

“Cameron was the only community college student participant in the world to receive this distinction during his time participating in X-Culture,” said Karen Lynden, a business administration and marketing instructor at Rowan-Cabarrus. “This is great recognition for our program and great experience for Cameron to be able to work on a global virtual team and be part of solutions for real companies.”
