Biography: Jenn Gardner Selby serves as Chair of the Department of Art & Design as well as the Executive Director of Transfer & University Partnerships for Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. Jenn earned her undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University and her graduate degree from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design (University of the Arts London) in London, UK. Her studio practice focuses on lens-based media and she has exhibited her artwork throughout Europe and the United States. She publishes art criticism and has served on various boards including those of the Rowan Arts Council, Waterworks Visual Arts Center, and the Education Committee at the Weatherspoon Art Museum in Greensboro. Jenn was a 2007 recipient of the NC Arts Council Regional Artist Project Grant and was awarded the Teaching Excellence award in 2012 with special distinction for Use of Technology in Instruction. In 2013 she gave the commencement address for the UNC-G Department of Art. Jenn was a panelist on the Community College Round table discussion during the 2013 SECAC conference in Greensboro, NC. In 2015 she presented at the FATE national conference on the topic of “The Role of Art Faculty in the Community College” and also helped establish the NC Community College AFA Association. She was appointed President of the North Carolina Community College Associate in Fine Arts Association from 2016 to 2020 and is an Advisor to the North Carolina Museum of Art. She currently serves on the Public Art Committee for the City of Salisbury and volunteers in numerous capacities in the local community. She serves as Project Lead on the Here’s My Story (2020) inclusive public art initiative funded by the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation. Selby also has a strong dedication to racial equity work. She has completed numerous racial equity trainings and in 2020 was appointed Chair of the Racial Equity Taskforce at First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury.

Biography: Jonathan received his Bachelors of Studio Art degree from Rowan University in New Jersey and his Masters of Fine Art degree from Winthrop University in South Carolina. Jonathan works primarily in graphite, oil, and acrylic and has had his art exhibited throughout the country. His work is pop-surrealist in nature and focuses on varied perceptions of reality and the distortion that occurs through passage of time.

Biography: Growing up in Southern California, Nieko McDaniel was influenced by Graffiti, Street Art, Hip-Hop, Rap, and an urban lifestyle. McDaniel makes work about identity & World-Building which he relates to Escapism and attributes to the type of entertainment the generation (the Millennials) he grew up part of prefers. Examples he gives are the genres of music, movies, television, and video games they consume. McDaniel believes the current world is something we try to escape from and says this can be done through simulation and invention. He comments on this idea by using materials that have an inherent history and function but re-purposes them to fit his vision.
In 2020, McDaniel received his Master of Fine Arts from American University in Washington, DC. He is now in his third year working as an Art Professor. McDaniel has exhibited his work nationally, internationally and has been published. As of August 2022, he has transitioned from adjunct instructor to Full-Time faculty at RCCC.

Biography: Hannah Surace is a visual artist whose practice explores themes of memory, nostalgia and the everyday through sculpture, drawing and painting. She is interested in domestic spaces, our connection to the space in which we inhabit and how the physical world influences our memories and ideas of the past. She earned her MFA in Sculpture from Savannah College of Art & Design in Atlanta, Georgia and her BFA in Fine Art from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Biography: Parker Reinecker is a street / documentary photographer, writer and educator based out of North Carolina. He is currently working in Northern Georgia, Northeastern Pennsylvania, and the American Southwest. Growing up in coal country, Scranton Pennsylvania, with a bar and a church on every corner, his work touches on the experience and struggle of growing up in the blue-collar United States. Drawing inspiration from his own struggles with personal identity, crime and homelessness which can be conceptually suggested within the compositions of heavy highlight and deep shadows. Parker’s images and series develop symbolic narratives throughout numerous themes, while immersed in his relationship to the broken landscape of “Small-Town America” and the conflict of poverty and beliefs, values and traditions, hope within the broken dreams and some touches of humor within it all.
Parker’s work has been exhibited in various galleries and museums in the United States including the Colorado Photographic Art Center, the Academy Art Museum and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. His work has also been featured in various national and international publications/platforms including C41 and Eyeshot Magazines, Dodho Magazine and The Photo Review. Parker is an MFA recipient from Savannah College of Art and Design.

Biography: Debora Kim is a Charlotte-based oil painter. She was born in Seoul, Korea and spent most of her life in Andover, Massachusetts. Her interest in art began during her years at Smith College and continued her studies at Ewha Woman’s University where she received her MFA in Western Painting. She is currently a member of the Goodyear Arts Collective in Charlotte, NC.

Biography: Caitlyn Lawler is an artist and art historian whose scholarship intersects memory, space, and place within the built and natural environments of the 20th and 21st centuries. She has written extensively about assemblage and outdoor installations with a particular focus on the localized histories of Los Angeles-based artists and their works. Her artistic practice operates as an inquiry into the conceptual and material limits of painting to include two and three-dimensional forms and installations. Caitlyn’s works often contend with impermanence and affective sensation as they pertain to lived experiences.

Biography: Shanna Glawson was born and raised in Western North Carolina. She has a MFA from East Tennessee University, a BFA with a concentration in sculpture from UNC Asheville, and an AAS in Professional Crafts: Silversmithing from Haywood Community College. She received two Undergraduate Research Grants as well as scholarships to attend art sessions at the New York Academy of Art, Penland School of Crafts, and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. Working with a variety of sculptural materials (wood, metal, fabric etc.), her sculptures and installations encompass compositional beauty and emotional provocation. She has found delight in the ability to transform these materials through texture, carving, assembling, painting, and manipulating the form. Ultimately, her artwork is intended to induce empathy within its viewers and raise awareness of social issues through art. In 2018, she did a six-month artist residency at the Center for the Faith and Arts of Salisbury, NC to develop her passion for community engaged artwork.

Biography: Born and raised in south Florida, Megumi Naganoma is an interdisciplinary artist. Most of her work is inspired by her own experiences and research focused on bringing awareness to issues about sexual violence and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Naganoma dominantly works in fabric, video, and drawing. While keeping audiences in mind, she uses various methods to advocate for rape survivors, by starting conversations that continue to shed light on something that is often still seen as taboo.
Naganoma graduated with her Master’s in Fine Arts in Sculpture from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 2019 and received her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Studio Art from the Florida State University in 2016. Other experiences include art handling, public art, performance and working with artists such as Judy. Pfaff and Kenneth von Roenn.
Philippe Dwyer

Biography: Philippe was born in Peru to a French mother and an American father; however, he grew up in the US, and received a BFA in graphic design from RISD and an MFA in textiles from SCAD. Through his travels, he became immersed in different cultures and the meaning and representations of their associated iconography. Dwyer’s artwork involves bringing to light the multicultural generation that he is a part of and is inspired by textures and patterns as well as creating new forms by deconstructing others. While in Chongqing, China he worked as a freelance graphic designer and as an ESL instructor and training specialist at an English school. More recently he was a gallery director for Park West Gallery, for which he ran the art enrichment program that encompassed promotional events, negotiating sales between collectors and artists, as well as hosting art auctions. His artwork has been exhibited nationally, internationally as well as in numerous juried exhibitions. Philippe currently teaches at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, Community College of Rhode Island, Rhode Island School of Design, and has published for the Georgia Historical Society and Textile Society of America.

Biography: Sanaz Haghani has MFA with distinction in Fine Art from the University of Georgia. She holds a BFA in Graphic Design from Sooreh University in Shiraz, Iran. She has worked as adjunct professor at the department of Printmaking and book arts, University of Georgia. She also was an Instructor of Record in Foundation Drawing at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. She worked as a graphic designer for eight years in Iran where she also taught Graphic Design and drawing courses.
Haghani has presented her work across the United States, i.e. the Georgia Museum of Art, the Missoula Art Museum, and she has exhibited internationally in multiple solo, group, and has been included in many invitational and juried Exhibitions. She is one of five artists selected by the GA Committee for the National Museum of Women in the Arts to exhibit at MOCA GA in Paper Routes: Women to Watch 2020. She has been featured in “Voyage Atl,” “The Atlantan,” “Shutout Atlanta” magazines, “College Book Art Association,” “Mid-American Print Council Journal,” and “The Hand Magazine”.

Biography: Bill is currently the Coordinator, Arts Programming at Arts and Health-Duke University Hospital. He works with patients, families, and staff to provide arts based programming. Additionally, he oversees the Duke University Hospital art collection by purchasing, maintaining, and securing the work in public and private spaces throughout the hospital. Before coming to Duke, he was with Johnston Community College as an instructor of studio art, art history, museum studies, and graphic design. Bill also managed the Frank Creech Art Gallery on the J.C.C. campus and invited artists from all over North Carolina to share their work with the students, staff, and community members of Johnston County, N.C. In his free time, he spends time with his wife and son while squeaking time to fly fish all over the United States.

Biography: Sandra Casserly is an esteemed instructor and seasoned artist. She is originally from Orange County California where she earned her Master’s degree in Art from California State University Fullerton. Sandra began exhibiting her artwork before she graduated and began her teaching career soon after. Her work involves the search for the visual chords that she creates with color, shape texture and simple images. Much like the emotional impact that music can have, Sandra orchestrates the visual elements together to strike a similar chord. Sandra has an extensive exhibition resume ranging up and down the coast of California across to the East coast of North Carolina. A highlight of her career includes an exhibit with the famous Composer John Cage. Her work can be seen in the collections of screenwriters, actors, educators, musicians, designers, attorneys, Doctors, art collectors, gallery owners, and other artists. Some of her accomplishments include being a Co-Founder and Director of an Art Gallery in the heart of the arts district in Downtown Los Angeles. Her exhibition highlights include Solo shows at Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Fullerton, and the Irvine Fine Arts Center where she was named as the Best New Artist in Orange County. Sandra was spotlighted on a televised “Women Artists “program for the city of Los Angeles. She has had 5 Two-person, 8 Three-person exhibits. Her work has been in over 20 group shows, including those at the Laguna Beach Museum of Art, the Downey Art Museum, and the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art. She has been a guest Lecturer at various art institutions, and a Juror for art competitions including Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. Her work in the community includes a painting workshop for LGBTQ youth, and an arts mentor program for at risk college freshmen. As a first generation college student and having gone to community college herself, Sandra is dedicated to the idea that community college is the perfect choice.

Biography: Michelle’s large watercolors focus on the direct and indirect ways that we impact the environment. Her paintings are portraits of trees that look as though they are dead but are still thriving in reality. Michelle is interested in nature’s ability to sustain itself after people have tried to change or destroy it. Michelle’s work has been exhibited throughout the country, including Nevada, Kentucky, Ohio, New England, and throughout North Carolina. She has received artist residencies including one at the Wilderness Workshop in Aspen, CO in August 2015. Along with teaching at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, Michelle teaches at Gaston College and Cornelius Arts Center.

Biography: Francine Kola-Bankole holds numerous degrees. Coming full circle back to her interests in art, after a career as an architect, she obtained her M.A. from California State University Long Beach where she examined the epistemologies used to present Africa in North American art history foundation textbooks. She is an art history PhD Student at University North Carolina Chapel Hill. Her doctoral research focuses on the modern and contemporary arts of Nigeria.

Biography: Ryland completed two years at Catawba Valley Community College studying Advertising and Graphic Design before pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at Savannah College of Art and Design. While going to school full time, he began working in the print industry and found a love for print design. Ryland spent several years working as a graphic designer and production manager in Asheville, NC designing and producing marketing collateral for local businesses. In January 2019 he joined Rowan Cabarrus Community College. Ryland is currently serving as Treasurer for the Advertising and Graphic Design Association of North Carolina helping to connect the community colleges across the state. In August 2020 Ryland completed his Masters of Fine Arts in Media Design. Ryland is very passionate about graphic design and is eager to help the next generation of designers master the Adobe Creative Cloud and reach their career goals.

Biography: Bailey is a multidisciplinary artist with a dedication to community engagement and inclusive programming. She received her BFA from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a concentration in Printmaking & Drawing. Accolades include ArtPop Charlotte Class of 2018, recipient of the Juni Arante Excellence in Print Award and nomination for the Robert W. Scott Governor’s Leadership Award. Her work explores significance in the mundanity of domestic spaces, chores and family.
Bailey joined the Art & Design Department in 2019 to assist with the Here’s My Story public art installation funded by the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation. This project resulted in the installation of three permanent sculptures in Rowan County, a PBS-NC documentary and the Here’s My Story book. In 2020 her position was expanded to further assist the Art & Design Department as well as the Executive Director of Transfer & University Partnerships, and in 2021 she became an instructor of Advertising & Graphic Design.

Biography: Wil Bosbyshell received a BFA (as a member of the ROTC) and MBA from the University of Georgia, and spent six years as an officer in the US Army following his undergraduate education. After a successful business career in the private sector, Bosbyshell was awarded a residency at the Hungarian Multicultural Center in Budapest, which set the course for his artistic career. He is a studio artist at the Charlotte Art League, and has been an arts professor for close to two decades at both the former Art Institute of Charlotte and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
His work has been shown in numerous gallery and community exhibitions, both solo and collective, including the McColl Center, Shain Gallery, Central Piedmont Community College, and Elder Gallery, where his participation in the 2018 group exhibition Vicarious received critical acclaim from the New York Times.
Bosbyshell and his work also had a feature in the prestigious Watercolor Magazine, and he has been highlighted in numerous other publications both locally and regionally. His work can be found in dozens of private and corporate collections locally and nationally. Bosbyshell is dedicated to community service, with a particular focus on youth, and has served on various boards and leadership positions, including for Scouts and a Group Living Housing Corporation at the University of Georgia. He resides in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Biography: Richard Hall lives in Wingate, NC with his loving wife and 2 dogs. Richard got his Bachelor of Music degree at UNC Charlotte studying trumpet with Dr. Michael Hackett. Richard also received his Masters in Music Performance degree at Morehead State University studying with professor Greg Wing. Richard has played trumpet for over 15 years and has performed with the Cave Run Symphony as principal trumpet, performs with multiple Wind Ensembles as principal trumpet, performs TAPS for the American Legion, plays Lead Trumpet in Jazz, and continually plays and teaches around North Carolina.

Biography: I currently teach private piano lessons in Charlotte for Arts+ and at my home studio in Denver. I also am the chancel choir accompanist and organist for the Denver United Methodist Church. Before I moved to North Carolina in 2021, I was the choral accompanist for the East Aurora High School choirs and club advisor for the National Music Honor Societiy (Tri-M) In addition I taught private piano lessons and was Music Director for the Word of Life Lutheran Church In Naperville, IL. I have also taught Music Appreciation classes at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, IL and Walther Lutheran High School in Melrose Park, IL.

Biography: Anne is a trumpet player and educator living in the Charlotte area. She has performed with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, the North Carolina Brass Band, the New Mexico Philharmonic, Ensemble Music New Mexico, the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, and the Panama City Pops Orchestra. Her work with the Sandia Brass Quintet and the New Mexico Philharmonic Brass Quintet helped bring classical music to public school students across the state of New Mexico. In addition to teaching at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, Anne also teaches music courses at Mitchell Community College. Anne holds a Masters of Music in Trumpet Performance. with Distinction from the University of New Mexico and a Bachelors of Music in Trumpet Performance from Florida State University.

Biography: Todd Campbell holds a Ph.D. Communications Media and Instructional Technology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music from West Virginia University. He has taught Music Production, Recording Technology, Music Appreciation, Applied Percussion and Percussion Pedagogy for over 15 years. He is a highly regarded educator, performer, sound designer and recording engineer. His solo recordings “Feel”, “Splinter”, “Translation”, “Pathology”, “Versification”, “Avenue Bruise”, “Party Lines” and “Ripped From the Headlines!” are available on iTunes. His ninth solo recording in as many years, “Heroes and Strangers” was released in May 2020.
