About High School Equivalency Testing

Take Your High School Equivalency (HSE) Tests at Rowan-Cabarrus

The Testing Center staff applauds your decision to take the high school equivalency tests. Many individuals just like you have taken similar examinations in order to obtain a better job or to further their education. We feel it is important for you to be informed, so you can make the best decisions for your next steps and path to success.

In the past, the GED® test was the only option for states to measure a student’s high school equivalent academic skills. You were not earning a GED®, but were completing the testing to demonstrate your skills for receiving a High School Equivalency Certificate from the state. This can sometimes be confusing for students, so we wanted to clarify the information.

In order to provide students with options and the best chance for earning the state-issued High School Equivalency credential, North Carolina has approved both GED® and HiSET® . It is your choice as to which exam series you wish to take. Both High School Equivalency assessments are recognized by the US Department of Education. Successfully completing either of the test series will earn you a High School Equivalency Diploma from the state of North Carolina. Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Testing Centers currently administer both approved high school equivalency examinations: GED® and HiSET®.
