GED® Testing

More than 19 million Americans have earned a high school equivalency credential through the GED^® Testing Service (GEDTS). The GEDTS is now a joint venture between Pearson-VUE and the American Council on Education to advance and deliver the GED^® Test. The GED^® Test is the most widely accepted measure of high school equivalency. The 2014 updated version is a high school equivalency test battery that measures skills in four subject areas: Reasoning through Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. All tests must be taken and passed to earn your high school equivalency diploma. Preparation for the high school equivalency tests is extremely important if you want to earn passing scores.

Rowan-Cabarrus recommends the following to help you prepare for the examinations:

• Rowan-Cabarrus offers preparation courses through our College & Career Readiness program on the North Campus and South Campus.
• Purchase Official GED^® test prep material from the GEDTS which includes workbooks, practice tests, etc.

GED^® Test Content

• Reasoning through Language Arts – (150 minutes and 10 minute scheduled break is provided) Topics tested include ability to read closely, write clearly, and edit and understand written text.
• Mathematics – (115 minutes) Topics tested include quantitative and algebraic problem solving.
• Social Studies – (70 minutes) Topics tested include United States history, economics, geography and the world, and civics and government.
• Science – (90 minutes) Topics tested include life science, physical science, and earth and space science.
• Scoring – A minimum score of 145 points is required for passing of each test.

Test Cost

Each individual test is $20.00. The total cost for completion of the entire battery is $80.00.

Schedule Your Appointment

Anyone 18 years or older may choose to take the GED^® exams. If you are 16 or 17 years of age, you can take the exams, but you must obtain special approval through the director of College & Career Readiness. You will need to complete the Minor Student Application and then schedule an appointment with Jay Taylor (jay.taylor@rccc.edu, 704-216-7116). Once that process has been completed and approved, you will be notified of your eligibility to schedule and complete the testing.

To schedule an appointment to complete GED^® testing, you will need to create an account through MyGED™. Once you have completed your profile within your account, follow the on-screen prompts for scheduling your testing. The GED^® tests are administered through Pearson-VUE. Pearson-VUE testing at North campus occurs in building 100 and at South campus in building 1000.

Requesting Accommodations

GED Testing Service is committed to ensuring access to the GED^® test for all individuals with disabilities and supports the intention of the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAAA). Test accommodations are individualized and considered on a case-by-case basis.

In order to request accommodations on your GED^® test(s), you must have an account through MyGED™. From there, you can print and complete the Accommodations Request Form and attach the required documentation for your disability. Fax your forms and documentation to GEDTS at 202-464-4894. It will take 30 days for your request to be reviewed. More information can be found on the GED Testing Service Accommodations website.
