Tutoring Center

Tutoring Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still visit the Tutoring Center on-campus or online?

For fall/spring semesters, Rowan-Cabarrus staff tutors are available on North and South Campus, as well as online through Microsoft Teams, on Mondays – Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and on Fridays 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. (only only). CBTC will also have tutoring available; hours and subjects vary, so please see the CBTC Info page for more information.

For summer semesters, Rowan-Cabarrus staff tutors are available on North and South Campus, as well as online through Microsoft Teams, on Mondays – Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Please see the Tutoring Schedule page for more details. You can access our tutors’ schedules and make an appointment by visiting either the Book a North Campus Session, Book a South Campus Session, or Book an Online Session links. Please email tutoring@rccc.edu with any immediate questions or concerns.

Should I download the desktop app for Teams?
You may choose to open Microsoft Teams in a browser or by downloading the Microsoft Teams desktop app. If you use the app, you will have access to additional features that are not available using the web version. If you don’t download the app, we recommend using Google Chrome as your browser.
What is the difference between the RCCC Tutoring Center and Tutor.com?

There are two types of online tutoring:

Microsoft Bookings/Teams with our Rowan-Cabarrus tutors that you can access using our scheduling calendar. These tutoring sessions are FREE and do not count against your overall tutoring hours. Once you schedule an appointment in Microsoft Bookings, you will receive an email confirmation with a Microsoft Teams meeting link to join your session when it begins.

Tutor.com Tutoring (available on nights and weekends) is accessed through your individual course in Blackboard. Select your course, and then select Course Tools. You will see Tutor.com—Online Tutoring as a link there. When you use one of the Tutor.com tutors, it will count against your overall hours in your tutoring account. You only have a set amount of hours for the semester (these vary by semester; see your Tutor.com dashboard for more information), so please try to use Rowan-Cabarrus tutors in Microsoft Bookings if at all possible.

Is tutoring free?

Yes! Tutoring is free of charge to students currently enrolled in classes at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.

Do you offer tutoring after hours?

Yes! We have partnered with Tutor.com to provide all Rowan-Cabarrus curriculum students with the option of receiving tutoring in most subjects from off-campus 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. You can access Tutor.com through the link in your Blackboard account. Like all tutoring at Rowan-Cabarrus, Tutor.com is free of charge, but students have limited hours of tutoring per semester.

Our staff tutors are available virtually during regular operating hours with some limited evening availability. There is no limit to the number of hours you can visit them. Simply go to the Book an Online Session link to see their schedules and make an appointment.

Do I need to bring anything with me to my session?

Yes, please make sure you come prepared with your class notes, textbook, and assignment guidelines. For writing, bring an electronic or printed copy of your paper ready to share. For math, bring a calculator if necessary. If it’s an online session, please make sure to have any files or e-texts easily accessible on your computer and ready to share if necessary.

Are there any rules about when I can attend the Center and for how long?

One of the most important rules you must follow when utilizing the center is that you cannot be in a session when you are scheduled to be in an in-person or synchronous class. If your class is canceled, please let the front desk associates know via tutoring@rccc.edu, and they will contact your instructor to verify. You can utilize the Rowan-Cabarrus staff tutors for an unlimited amount of hours each semester.

Do I need to schedule an appointment?

Yes. You can schedule an appointment, as well as check tutor schedules, by going to either the Book a North Campus Session, Book a South Campus Session, or Book an Online Session links. Tutoring at CBTC does NOT require an appointment. Sessions using Tutor.com do NOT require an appointment. We do accept walk-ins on a first-come, first-served basis at North and South Campus, but if you walk in, we cannot guarantee you will receive immediate assistance.

Do you have a cancellation policy for appointments?

Yes, we ask that students cancel or reschedule their appointments for either in-person or online tutoring through the Tutoring Center. If the student is a no-show to the appointment, the tutor and/or front desk staff will reach out via email. If a student is recorded as having been a no-show to a scheduled appointment three times in one semester (regardless of the course), then they will no longer be allowed to schedule appointments in advance. Tutor.com will remain an option as will drop-in tutoring for in-person sessions. You will be notified by the Director via email if this applies to you.
