Workforce Assessments

About WorkKeys

WorkKeys is a division of ACT, Inc that is dedicated to assessing what skills are necessary for employees to be successful in the workplace and then helping employees gain those skills through achievement tests. ACT studied approximately 13,000 job types across the United States. From this study, they learned there are skill areas that are required to be successful in most jobs.

  • Reading for Information
  • Applied Mathematics
  • Locating Information
  • Applied Technology
  • Teamwork
  • Workplace Observation
  • Listening for Understanding
  • Business Writing

ACT learned that three skill areas, reading for information, applied mathematics and locating information, were essential for success in 90% of all job types studied.

However, they also learned that three skill areas, reading for information, applied mathematics and locating information, were essential for success in 90% of all job types studied. For this reason, the North Carolina Career Readiness Certification is based on achievement in these three skill areas.
