Diversity & Inclusion

Our Purpose

The Diversity & Inclusion Committee is devoted to celebrating and embracing differences as strengths while creating an environment that is open and engaging. The primary goals are to promote a spirit of inclusion, encourage participation in activities that provide social awareness, and encourage dialogue as we continue to evolve our diverse campus community.

To create a plan to address college wide professional development that supports a culture of inclusiveness and that also aligns with Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s core values.

Our Mission

Rowan-Cabarrus Diversity & Inclusion Committee is dedicated to cultivating diversity among its employees, students, and community by fostering inclusiveness, equity, awareness, and acceptance.

Our Vision

To be a campus leader in equity and inclusivity and a resource for the campus community.

Why a Diversity and Inclusion Committee?

Compliance – the law prevents discrimination on the basis of age, sex, race, color, religion, national origin, or qualified individuals with disabilities.

Community – with diversity in our community, our employees need to be diverse to determine and understand what appeals to or satisfies their needs and desires.

Creativity – the more diverse our employees, the more varied the ideas and solutions we can generate.

What steps are needed for a more diverse & inclusive culture?

  • Education
    • Dialogue & Discussion
      • Engagement

Diversity: the art of thinking independently together.” ~ Malcolm Forbes

How does the committee plan to promote engagement to create dialogue?

We will:

  • Help promote a culture of inclusivity.
  • Discuss social responsibilities and how they affect the College.
  • Plan, promote, and execute events that celebrate differences such as a “Multi-Cultural Celebration Day”.

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
