From High School to College: How Dual Enrollment Students Learn

The pedagogical methods in today’s high school classrooms have undergone major transitions over the past decade. With these pedagogical shifts has also come a transition in the physical set up of classrooms that work in conjunction with the more modern pedagogical methods. This session will explore how current high school students are learning (teachers as facilitators, project and problem-based learning, cooperative learning, flexible learning spaces, etc.) in their high school settings to provide a better understanding of our high school population when they enter the college classroom.

Fun with Macros!

Have you always wanted to know more about macros in excel? Well now’s your chance, come learn how this simple tool can help you automate some of your daily excel tasks.

Getting Your EVA Settings Right

It doesn’t matter if your new to the EVA or have years of experience, getting your settings right can be a challenge. During this session we’ll walk you though the settings and give you tips for checking your settings to ensure your students can see what you need them to see, when you need them to see it.

G.U.I.D.E. Part II

Growth Understanding Inclusion Diversity & Equity (GUIDE) Part 2 will focus on equity and inclusion issues that face people with various disabilities. This inactive workshop will attempt to help learners “feel” and understand what it is like to be disabled while trying to navigate in an educational setting.

Getting Started With Microsoft OneDrive

Discover the basic features of OneDrive. It is a cloud file storage solution that provides users the ability to store, share and collaborate on files from one location. You can access your files from anywhere on all your devices. During this introductory session, you will learn how to access and navigate through the web interface. Plus, participate in hands-on experience as you create new files, upload files and review other useful features. At the end of this training session, participants will be able to present two features of OneDrive for Business.

Grading Faster with Gradescope

Gradescope is a program that was developed by computer science instructors at UC Berkley to speed up their grading. Their biggest users tend to be in math, science, computer science, and business. Since going to ERT this semester, I have used it to grade statistics labs and have liked it. Thankfully, the learning curve was small! In this session, I will show how to get started, how to grade an assignment, and some tips I have learned.

Grant Writing/Management Workshop

Provide an overview of the grant development and grant management processes at the College.

Interested in OER? We Can Help!

College textbooks have gotten so expensive that many students are opting not to buy the textbook at all, but are taking their chances at lower grades or resorting to work-a rounds like sharing textbooks, photocopying from classmates, or finding illegal copies. An increasing number of educators are seeking alternatives to traditional texts, including open educational resources (OERs) and library resources. This session will introduce you to how librarians can support faculty in taking advantage of this movement.

Office 365 is now Microsoft 365 – What that Means for Us and Our Students

Office 365 has changed – are you ready? During this session we’ll look at the shift to Microsoft 365 and the impacts on us and our students.

At the end of this training session, attendees will be able to distinguish three ways in which they can decrease the chance of data compromise.

Signals of Success: a Homegrown Early Alert System

Chairs Dr. Jenny Billings and Melissa Reid were tasked with creating an early alert system that would be user-friendly for faculty, was created in-house at the College, and used color-coded indicators to signal a student’s current success in their course. During the year of development, Billings and Reid worked with IT in order to develop “Signals of Success” or “SOS”. SOS was first piloted in fall 2018 and has been used consistently ever since. Since rolling out, SOS has increased efforts in communication, documentation, participation, and student success.

Simple Strategies to Engage your Students in your Online or Seated class

“Two things remain irretrievable: time and a first impression.” – Cynthia Ozick

Stress Management *Tentative*

Stress affects us all. It affects our health, our emotional well-being, our relationships and our productivity. Most stress management books and techniques spend a great deal of time talking about what stress does to you. In this session, however, we will focus on solutions to rather than problems caused by stress. This is a fun activity session that will remind you of tools you already have and hopefully give you a few more to help you deal with the busy, complicated, stress-filled lives we lead.
