If you plan to transfer to a 4-year college or university, the following information is important to know.

What program do I select if I plan on transferring to a UNC school?

North Carolina offers many transfer opportunities for community college graduates. There are three ways of transferring from a NC community college to a NC public university. The Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) provides seamless transfer to graduates of Associate in Arts and Associate in Science programs. Uniform Articulation Agreements (UAA) provide transfer opportunities for students in discipline-specific programs, such as Associate in Fine Arts – Visual Arts, Associate in Engineering, and Associate Degree Nursing. Bilateral Articulation Agreements (BAA) provide focused transfer pathways for many transfer and technical degrees into specific universities.

Knowing all of this, it is important to research transfer and speak with your advisor, faculty mentor, or program chair about your transfer plans as soon as you apply to Rowan-Cabarrus. This will help you enroll in the correct program and take the specific courses you need to achieve your transfer goals. It is also important that you regularly meet with your advisor, faculty mentor, or program chair throughout your time at the College to make sure you stay on track.

Be sure to take ACA-122 (College Transfer Success) in your first semester at Rowan-Cabarrus to begin your transfer journey.

What if I plan on transferring to an independent (private) university?

There are many independent (private) colleges and universities in North Carolina. Students who wish to transfer to one of these institutions may do so in one of the following ways. The Independent Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (ICAA) provides seamless transfer to graduates of Associate in Arts and Associate in Science programs. Independent Uniform Articulation Agreements (IUAA) provide transfer opportunities for students in the discipline-specific programs Associate in Fine Arts – Visual Arts and Associate Degree Nursing. Bilateral Articulation Agreements provide focused transfer pathways for many transfer and technical degrees into specific 4-year college and universities.

How do I request my transcripts from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College?

To get your official Rowan-Cabarrus transcript, navigate to our Transcript Request Policy webpage and select the ‘Request your Curriculum Transcript’ box. Once you select that option, follow the instructions and you will have your transcript within a matter of minutes.

What do I do if I experience problems in the transfer process?

College Visits to Campuses

University representatives visit the North and South Campuses each semester to speak with students who are interested in continuing their education beyond Rowan-Cabarrus. These representatives can provide valuable information to about their university campus culture, student resources, university financial aid, application questions, and general transfer information.

Check the College Visits to Rowan-Cabarrus webpage to find out when and where your school of interest will be on campus. Visits on North Campus will take place in the Building 100 Lobby and visits on South Campus will take place inside the Student Center.

Transfer Fair

This annual event brings together many 4-year colleges and universities from across the state. Typically, this event alternates between North and South Campuses and it is held in fall semester each year. The transfer fair typically attracts over 20 colleges and universities. Information and details about this event will be emailed to students and is available on the Transfer Fair webpage.

Reverse Transfer

The Reverse Transfer Program is a collaborative effort between NC Community Colleges and the University of NC System.

Students who transfer to a NC university from one of the 58 NC community colleges are given the opportunity to combine the credits earned at the university with credit already earned at the community college to determine if the associate degree requirements have been met.

Eligible students will be asked to participate when they transfer to one of the participating universities through their student services account. There is no cost to the student for sending information and awarding of the degree.
